Sumatriptan

Sumatriptan is a prescription medication used to treat migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. It belongs to a class of drugs called triptans, which work by narrowing blood vessels in the brain and reducing inflammation, helping to relieve headache pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound associated with migraines. Sumatriptan does not prevent migraines but is effective in treating attacks once they start.

Sumatriptan Consumption Precautions

Do NOT take Sumatriptan if:

• You are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients in the tablets.
• You have a history of heart disease, angina, heart attack, stroke, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
• You have severe liver disease.
• You are taking MAO inhibitors or certain other migraine medications.

Check with your doctor before taking if:

• You have kidney or liver problems.
• You have a history of circulation problems, diabetes, or high cholesterol.
• You are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

How To Take Sumatriptan

• Take the tablet as soon as migraine symptoms start, following the dosage prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
• A second dose may be taken at least 2 hours after the first if symptoms persist, but do not exceed the maximum daily dose prescribed.
• Follow your healthcare professional’s instructions carefully.

Warnings

• Keep out of reach of children.
• Sumatriptan does not prevent future migraines; use only for acute attacks.
• Contact your doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, severe dizziness, or vision changes.
• Avoid driving or operating machinery if the medication causes dizziness or drowsiness.

Possible Side Effects

• Tingling, warmth, or flushing
• Dizziness or drowsiness
• Nausea or stomach discomfort
• Rare heart-related effects, chest pain, or allergic reactions

Storing Sumatriptan Tablets

• Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
• Keep tablets in the original packaging to protect from moisture and light.
• Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
