Serevent, also known as Salmeterol, belongs to medicines known as long-acting ‘Bronchodilators.’ It is meant to treat asthma and other respiratory problems. It works by making breathing easier through opening the airways in the lungs. Serevent Diskus is used by adults and children four years old and older who are using corticosteroids in treating asthma.
For safe use, follow all instructions. If your symptoms do not improve within a week, consult your doctor. Serevent will not be effective for asthma attacks that are already present. Instead, use the medication as an asthma inhalation drug that is fast-acting.
Asthma attacks can often be treated with multiple drugs, these can also be used in combination with Serevent for better treatment of asthma. Your doctor may prescribe another asthma medicine.
Serevent Diskus anti-asthma medication is available in powder form. It can be inhaled using an inhaler device. The blister packaging contains the measured dose of medication. For best results, patients should use the medication regularly. Before you run out, make sure your prescription is renewed. Keep Serevent away from direct heat, sun, and moisture.
Stop using this medication immediately without consulting your doctor. Stopping using the medication immediately can cause your asthma to worsen. Your doctor will recommend that you use your inhaler. If your condition does not improve or if it fails to prevent an attack, consult your doctor. Without consulting your doctor, never change your medication or dosage. You should not abruptly stop taking steroid medications. It could cause withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor about the medication you are taking and whether you want to discontinue using it.
If you feel your medication is not working for you, you should immediately seek medical attention.
Many factors could affect how much medication a person needs. The dosage of medication required can depend on the individual's medical condition, weight, and any other medications that are being taken. Do not alter the dosage of your medication if your doctor has recommended it.
Serevent should be taken as directed by your doctor regularly. Unless directed by a healthcare professional, you should not stop taking your regular medication. You should always remember to take the next dose if you miss a dose. You can skip the missed dose if it is time for the next dose. To make up for the missed dose, do not take more than one dose. If your pharmacist or doctor advises you to, there is no need to take a second dose.
Serevent does not cause side effects to everyone who uses it. However, like any other medicine, Serevent may cause the following side effects:
Muscle Pains, Cramps, Tremors or Weakness
Seizures or Fits
High Blood Sugar
Signs of Low Potassium
Do not use it to treat your asthma attack that has already occurred, as it will not help. Use the correct amount of dosage, and never for a prolonged period. Read the patient information leaflet.
Use it in combination with another asthma medication to treat asthma.
Consult your doctor before taking Serevent if any of the following applies to you:
High Blood Pressure
Allergy To Medicines
Pregnancy or breastfeeding
