Levothyroxine is an active ingredient that helps in treating Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is not properly functioning. Levothyroxine is used to replace or provide enough thyroid hormone, which is otherwise produced by your thyroid gland. Low thyroid hormone levels may occur either naturally or when the thyroid gland has been damaged by radiation/medications or surgically removed. For normal mental and bodily activity, having enough thyroid hormone is essential.

Take Levothyroxine as directed by your doctor.
Take this medication orally once a day on an empty stomach, usually 30 minutes to 1 hour before breakfast. Take the capsules of this medication whole; do not chew, split or crush the tablet.
However, for infants or children who cannot swallow whole tablets, crush the tablet and mix in 1 to 2 teaspoons (5 to 10 millilitres) of water, and give using a spoon or dropper right away. Do not prepare a supply in advance or mix the tablet in soy infant formula.
