Vermox contains the active ingredient known as Mebendazole. Vermox tablets contain 100 mg Mebendazole as the active ingredient.
Vermox can be used to treat the following types of worm infection in the gut:
Roundworm infections or ascariasis
Threadworm infections or enterobiasis
Whipworm infections or trichuriasis
These infections can be treated with Vermox in both adults and children older than two years. You can either take this medicine as a tablet or in a suspension form.
Vermox works by preventing the worms from absorbing the sugars they require to survive. The worms' energy stores are depleted, and they will die within days. The stools will contain the dead worms.
Although the medication can kill adult worms, it cannot kill their eggs. After Vermox treatment, it is important to maintain good hygiene.
Vermox should be used to treat threadworm. Because threadworms spread easily, Vermox should be taken by the entire family. Even if there are no symptoms, the whole family should be on the medication at once.
Consult your doctor if symptoms don't disappear or get better within a few days.
Vermox is not recommended for people who are allergic to or intolerable to any of its ingredients. To determine if you are allergic to any of the medicines in Vermox, make sure to read the patient information leaflet.
Like any other medicine, Vermox may cause the following side effects:
Wind or stomach discomfort
Inflammation of the liver or kidneys
Changes in liver enzymes
Reduction in white blood cells
Unusual hair loss
