Domperidone should only be administered by your doctor or under his immediate supervision. This medication is available as a tablet or as a suspension.
Domperidone works as an antiemetic, prokinetic medicine. It blocks the action of a chemical messenger within the brain that causes nausea and vomiting. Also, it increases the movement or contractions in the stomach and intestines so food can move more easily.
The strength of the medicine will be determined by your condition and response to the medicine. The medical condition being treated will determine the number of medicine you need, how long you can take between each dose, and how many days you have to take it.
Domperidone is to be taken orally. Its dosage depends on the condition being treated, e.g.:
To treat gastrointestinal motility disorders:
One 10 mg tablet can be taken by the adults up to three to four times a day. While some people may need a higher dosage and can take up to one 20 mg tablet three to four times a day.
To treat nausea and vomiting:
One 20 mg tablet can be taken by the adults up to three to four times a day.
In case you forget to take a dosage of Domperidone, take the forgotten dosage as soon you remember. But if it is almost the time for the next dosage, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dosage to make up for a missed dosage. Consult your doctor or nearest medical facility in case of an overdose.
