High blood pressure is a common condition that can lead to damage to the brain and other body parts. This organ damage can lead to heart disease, stroke, heart failure, kidney failure, vision loss, and other issues. Lifestyle changes can also be helpful in controlling blood pressure. These lifestyle changes include eating a low-fat and low salt diet, exercising regularly for at least 30 minutes a day, quitting smoking, and drinking moderately.
You can swallow the tablets whole with water with or without food. To help you remember, it is best to take the tablets at the same time every day.
The usual starting dose for high blood pressure is 10mg, taken once daily. Over time, the dosage will increase to 20mg each day. This dose may differ if Lisinopril is being used for heart disease, diabetes problems or to treat children. You should always follow the instructions and consult your doctor if in doubt.
It is worth noting, however, that your first dose of medication may cause a higher blood pressure drop than what you will experience over time. Be aware of dizziness and lightheadedness as your body adjusts to the new medication.
You can skip your missed dose of Lisinopril and go straight to the next one if you forget. Do not increase your dose to make up the difference.
You should not take more Lisinopril than you need.
