The daily dose of hormones works by convincing the body that ovulation has already occurred. It stops the egg from being ripened and prevents it from being released each month.
The hormones thicken the natural mucus around the neck of the womb, making it more difficult for sperm from the vaginal channel to reach the womb to fertilise an egg. Hormones can also alter the quality of the lining in the womb, which makes it less conducive to the implantation of fertilised eggs.
You will be taking light brown tablets, containing 50mcg of levonorgestrel, for the first six days. The next five days will be spent on white tablets containing 75mcg of levonorgestrel. The final ten days will be spent on ochre-coloured tablets containing 125mcg of levonorgestrel.
A strip contains 21 Logynon tablets. After you finish a strip, the pill will be stopped for seven days. You will experience normal bleeding during this period. After seven days, you can begin the next phase of your treatment.
You can take your forgotten dose unless you are near the time of your next dose. You should be protected against pregnancy even if you've missed one day. You should use additional contraception for seven days if you have missed more than one day.
