Istin Tablets

Istin treats high blood pressure and a specific type of chest pain called Angina.

Istin contains the active ingredient amlodipine. It belongs to the class of medicines known as calcium antagonists.

Istin is used to lower blood pressure in patients with high blood pressure.

Istin increases blood flow to the heart muscle, which allows for more oxygen. As a result, chest pain is cured and prevented. Istin does not provide immediate relief of chest pain from angina.

It is best to take Istin with water either before or after eating. Take Istin at the same time every day. Grapefruit juice should not be taken with this medication.

Do not double up the dose for a missed dose. If you forget to take the medicine on time, and it's almost time for your next dose, skip the dose.

Your doctor will tell you how long you should take this medicine. If you stop taking this medicine sooner than you are advised, your condition could return.

Adults should take 5 mg of Istin daily as their initial dose. Your doctor can increase the dose to 10mg once daily when required.

Children and adolescents aged 6-17 years should take 2.5 mg daily as a starting dose. The maximum recommended daily dose is 5 mg. You can divide the Istin 5 mg tablet into half to get a 2.5mil dose.

Istin, like any other medicine, may cause some unwanted side effects, although not everyone gets them. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

Unexpected wheezing, chest pain, difficulty breathing;
Swelling of the throat and tongue, face, eyelids or lips;
Intense skin rash, skin reddening, hives, severe itching, inflammation of the mucous membranes, blistering, swelling, and peeling of the skin, or other allergic reactions;
Inflammation of the pancreas causing abdominal and back pain and an unwell feeling;
Heart failure, abnormal heartbeat;
Oedema;
Palpitations, flushing;
Headache, sleepiness, or dizziness;
Nausea;
Weakness or tiredness;
Altered bowel habits, constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion;
Muscle cramps;
Ankle swelling;
Trembling, fainting, taste abnormalities;
Mod changes, depression, anxiety, sleeplessness;
Ringing in the ears;
Numbness or tingling sensations in your limbs, loss of pain sensation;
Low blood pressure;
Cough;
Dry mouth, vomiting;
Hair loss, increased sweating, red patches on the skin, itchy skin, or skin discolouration;
Pain, feeling unwell;
Erectile dysfunction, or an enlargement or swelling of the breasts in men;
Weight increase or decrease; or
Confusion as a result of the use of this medication.

Do not take Istin without consulting your doctor if:

You are allergic to amlodipine, or any of its ingredients;
You have severe low blood pressure;
You have a contraction of the aortic heart valve or cardiogenic shock;
You have suffered from heart failure after a heart attack;
You are treating a child under the age of 6;
pregnant, trying to be pregnant or breastfeeding; or
taking any prescription, non-prescription or herbal medicine.

It should be used only for hypertension in children and adolescents from 6 years to 17 years of age.

Do not consume grapefruit and grapefruit juice as it can lead to an unpredictable increase in the blood pressure-lowering effect of this medication.

Istin affects the ability to drive or operate machinery, do not drive or operate machinery until you are sure that you are not dizzy and contact your doctor immediately.
