Maxalt is used to treat migraine symptoms such as headaches, pain, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. The ability to treat the problem quickly can help a person get back to their normal life, reducing the need for pain medication.
Maxalt doesn't prevent migraines from happening again or reduce migraine attacks.
Maxalt works by binding to 5-HT1B/1D receptors in blood vessels in the brain. It narrows or constricts blood vessels in the brainstem. It reduces inflammation in the body that trigger symptoms such as nausea, head pain, and sensitivity to sound and light. Maxalt is most effective when it is taken immediately after the first symptoms of migraines appear.
Maxalt should be taken at the first sign of a migraine.
Maxalt should be taken by mouth at the first sign you feel a migraine. Maxalt can be taken with or without food, but it is more effective when taken empty stomach. Your medical condition, response to treatment and age will all affect the dosage. Children's dosage is determined by their body weight. Before you begin Maxalt, tell your doctor about any medications you take.
Maxalt should be stopped if you don't notice any improvement in your symptoms. Talk to your doctor right away. You may need to take another dose if you feel your symptoms have improved or your headaches return. A maximum of one dose given to children should not be more than five mg per 24-hour period. Adults should not consume more than 30 mg within 24 hours.
If you have a greater risk of developing heart disease, your doctor may conduct a heart examination before prescribing this medication. To minimise serious side effects, your doctor may direct that you take the first dose in the clinic or office.
Your headaches may worsen if you take medication for migraine attacks 10 days more each month. Use the medication only as directed.
Children aged 6-17 years old who are less than 88 lbs should take a single 5 mg dose. Children weighing more than 88 lbs can take a single 10 mg dose.
Maxalt may cause flushing, tiredness and feelings of weakness, tingling, tingling, tingling, dizziness, or drowsiness. These side effects can persist or get worse if you do not report them to your doctor.
Maxalt may raise your blood pressure. If your blood pressure is high, you should monitor it regularly and inform the doctor.
If you experience any side effects such as blue fingers/toes/nails or mental/ mood changes, notify your doctor immediately.
Maxalt can cause tightness or pressure in the jaw or chest, but this is rarely serious. These side effects can mimic symptoms of heart attacks. These side effects, along with other serious side effects, should be reported to your doctor immediately.
Maxalt is rarely a cause of severe allergic reactions. If you experience severe allergic reactions, such as rash, dizziness, swelling, or difficulty breathing, please seek medical attention immediately.
Maxalt can be used to treat allergies. Maxalt could contain inactive ingredients which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
Before you begin Maxalt, tell your doctor about any medical conditions, including blood circulation problems, headaches or heart problems.
Certain conditions can increase your risk for heart problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, overweight, smoker, postmenopausal, or if you are a man who is over 40 years old.
Maxalt can make you dizzy or drowsy. It can be worsened by marijuana or alcohol use. You should not drive, operate machinery or do any other tasks that require alertness unless you're sure you can safely do so. If you use marijuana, talk to your doctor.
Maxalt should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks of Maxalt.
