Malarone Tablets

Malarone is a combination medicine that includes proguanil and atovaquone. It is used to prevent and treat malaria from Anopheles mosquito bites. Mosquito bites are the main way malaria parasites enter the body and live in tissues, such as red blood cells.

Malarone has been proven to be effective in cases where other antimalarial drugs failed.

Malarone can be used to treat or prevent malaria by killing parasites. Malarone can be used alone or with other medicines to treat malaria.

Malarone dosage is determined by your medical condition, whether you are using this medication to prevent or treat malaria, your response to treatment, and how well you have taken it. Children's dosages of Malarone are determined by their body weight.

If you forget to take your medicine, you can still get it if you remember. If you do not remember until the next dose is due, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose. Ask your doctor for advice if you are unsure what to do after missing a dose.

The medication should be kept at room temperature, away from moisture and light, and out of reach of children.

Malarone tablets contain 250 mg atovaquone, 100 mg proguanil.

Malarone is used to prevent malaria. One tablet should be taken once daily, one to two days before travelling to a malaria-endemic region. Then continue for 7 days.

For treatment of malaria, 4 tablets of Malarone are recommended. They should be taken orally for three days.

Side effects of Malarone may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches, nausea, stomach pains, vomiting, weakness, and stomach cramps. As with all medicines, Malarone can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and skin rash. Please refer to the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with your medication.

Malarone isn't 100% effective in preventing malaria. However, it can be used properly and in conjunction with bite prevention methods.
