What are Galvus 50mg Tablets?

Galvus contains the active ingredient Vildagliptin 50mg. This is a treatment for type 2 diabetes used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels. It may be used in combination with other medicines for type 2 diabetes.

How does Vildagliptin work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?

Vildagliptin works by making the pancreas produce more insulin and less glucagon.

It does this by blocking the breakdown of incretin hormones in the body. These hormones are released after a meal and stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin. Vildagliptin prolongs their action, stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin when blood glucose levels are high.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). 

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood, and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.

An emergency supply of Galvus:

Galvus is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Galvus is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Galvus can be sent directly to you.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Galvus you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.
