Celebrex works by blocking enzymes that make prostaglandins in the body which will ultimately reduce swelling and pain.
Celebrex should be taken orally according to your doctor's instructions, usually once or twice daily. Celebrex can be taken with or without food. Take it with food to lower the chance of stomach upset. Celebrex dosage is determined based on your medical condition and treatment response. Celebrex should be taken at the lowest possible dose for the duration of the treatment.
Celebrex should be taken with a full glass of water unless your doctor has instructed otherwise. After taking Celebrex, do not lie down for at least ten minutes.
Celebrex can take up to 2 weeks to start to show its full benefits if you're taking it to treat your arthritis. Celebrex will be more effective if taken immediately after pain symptoms begin to appear. The medication may not work if you wait until your pain worsens.
Celebrex may cause gas or stomach upset. If these side effects become severe or persist, tell your doctor immediately.
Celebrex may raise your blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure, make sure to monitor it regularly and inform your doctor.
If you experience severe side effects such as headaches, swelling, pains in the groin, or calf, a sign of kidney problems, pain or difficulty swallowing, changes in urine volume, swelling of the feet or ankles, unusual weight gain or tiredness, immediately inform your doctor.
Celebrex can rarely cause liver disease. If you experience persistent nausea or vomiting, dark urine, severe stomach pain, yellowing skin or eyes, or persistent nausea or vomiting, immediately inform your doctor.
Before you take Celebrex, tell your doctor if you have an allergy to Celebrex or its ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other problems.
Celebrex side effects may make older adults more sensitive, such as stomach bleeding or kidney problems.
Celebrex should not be administered to children suffering from a particular type of arthritis. There could be an increased chance of bleeding or clotting problems.
Celebrex should not be taken if you are pregnant, trying to be pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor recommends you so.
