Onglyza Tablets (Saxagliptin)

Onglyza is a treatment for type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

Onglyza tablets come in two strengths: 2.5mg and 5mg.

What are Onglyza Tablets?

Onglyza contains the active ingredient Saxagliptin. This is a treatment for type 2 diabetes used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels. It may be used in combination with other medicines for type 2 diabetes.
 

How does Saxagliptin work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?

Saxagliptin works by increasing levels of incretins. Incretins are natural subsatances that help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a food. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). 

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.
 

Emergency supplys of Onglyza:

Onglyza is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Onglyza is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Onglyza can be sent directly to you.

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Onglyza you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.
