Clobetasol propionate 0.05% is the active ingredient in Dermovate Ointment. Dermovate Ointment, an extremely potent topical corticosteroid, is recommended for adults, seniors, and children over one year old to treat persistent inflammation and pruritic manifestations in skin conditions such as recalcitrant dermatoses, lichen planus and discoid lupus erythematosus that are not equally responding to less potent corticosteroids.
It is a powerful corticosteroid that can reduce inflammation, redness, itching, and other skin problems that are not equally responding to less potent corticosteroids.
When a skin reaction or irritation causes skin inflammation, blood vessels in the skin widen, and the affected area becomes swollen, red and itchy.
Dermovate Ointment is a skin cream that stops the release of inflammatory substances. It reduces inflammation by reducing swelling, redness, and itching and prevents skin from scratching.
To control skin conditions, repeated short courses of Dermovate Ointment are beneficial.
Dermovate Ointment should not be applied on infected or broken skin areas unless it is the area that is being treated. Unless instructed by your specialist to apply the Dermovate Ointment to facial skin, do not apply it on your face. Be cautious and do not get into your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you accidentally get it in your eyes, rinse it with lots of water.
If your doctor does not direct you, do not cover the treated area with bandages or other airtight coverings. It will increase the drug's absorption and increase the chance of side effects. Your doctor will advise you if you are required to cover the treated area, clean your skin, apply the ointment, and cover under recommended clothing or dressings.
Keep taking this medication as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor if the skin condition does not improve after two weeks.
Dermovate Ointment is strictly used for a period prescribed by your doctor.
If the skin is infected, discontinue using this medication immediately and consult your doctor.
Do not exceed your dosage of 50 gms a week unless recommended by your doctor because of the severity of your condition.
Side effects can be an unwelcome response to medication even if it is administered in the recommended dose. Dermovate Ointment may cause side effects that are mild and temporary. Discuss with your doctor any concerns you may have about the side effects of Dermovate Ointment.
Most of these side effects can be managed and will resolve on their own. Consult your doctor if the following side effects persist or worsen:
Dryness, burning, irritation, itching, or redness of the skin
Eye pain when using it near the eye
Headache
Skin colour changes
Increased redness or scaling of the skin sores
