How Does Terbinafine Cream 1% Work?
Terbinafine is the name of the active ingredient in both the antifungal cream and tablets.
The active ingredient targets the cell membrane of the fungi.
The cell membrane is important for the survival of the fungus. They stop the cells' contents from leaking out and keep unwanted substances from invading the cells.
Terbinafine inhibits squalene epoxidase enzymes which are responsible for producing ergosterol. It is believed that the increased amount of squalene increases the permeability of the cell wall, breaking the cell membrane down.
By breaking apart the cell membrane, the contents of the cell spill out, thus killing the fungi and clearing the infection.
