Nexium provides relief for many stomach-related ailments. Nexium works by blocking the proton pump and inhibiting acid production within the stomach. It reduces harmful acid production and provides relief from gastrointestinal reflux and other related disorders.
Nexium is usually administered for four to eight weeks. If you require more Nexium treatment, your doctor may recommend another round of treatment.
Nexium tablet should be taken with 8 ounces of water. The tablet should be taken at least an hour before you eat a full meal.
It is available in the strengths of 10mg, 20 and 40 mg.
Take Nexium 20 mg once daily for stomach infections and duodenal ulcers in patients 18 years old or older. This will last 4 weeks.
Take 20 mg twice daily for 10 days to treat duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter Pylori infection in patients 18 years old and older.
Patients aged 18 and over should take 40 mg of the medication once daily for 4-8 weeks to treat the gastric ulcer.
Take 20 mg Nexium daily for 4 weeks if you have GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) in patients over 18 years old.
This medication is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

Taking Nexium for an extended period of time can cause the development of Fundic Gland Polyps in the stomach. Consult with your doctor about this possible health risk.
If you are using Nexium for over 3 years, you can have Vitamin B12 deficiency problems. Ask your doctor how you can manage this health condition as it develops.
