Diabetes complications such as kidney damage and blindness, nerve problems, blindness, sexual dysfunction problems, and loss of limbs are limited by controlling your blood sugar. Your risk of having a stroke or heart attack can also be reduced by you controlling your diabetes.
Sitagliptin, a medication for diabetes, belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitors. Januvia increases the amount of incretin that is released from the intestine. Incretin is a hormone that raises insulin levels when blood sugar levels rise and decreases body sugar production. Sitagliptin can be taken alone or in combination with other medications to lower the levels of sugar in type 2 diabetics. Januvia should only be used in conjunction with a diabetes management plan, which includes a diet programme and an exercise programme.
This medication should be taken by mouth, with or without food, as directed by your doctor. It is usually taken once per day.
Januvia dosage is determined based on your medical condition, kidney function, as well as your response to treatment. To get the best benefit, Januvia should be taken regularly. To help you remember when to take Januvia, try taking it at the same time every day.
You should follow the recommended treatment plan of your doctor, along with a healthy diet plan and exercise programme that is appropriate for you.
If your blood sugar levels are very high or low, you should inform your doctor immediately. Your doctor might adjust your diabetes medication.
Januvia comes in 25 mg, 50mg, and 100mg tablets.
Januvia may lead to low blood sugar or hypoglycemia if it is taken along with other diabetes medications. Consult your doctor if this is the case with you, or you take other diabetes medicine too.
Symptoms of low blood sugar include shaking, sudden sweating, hunger, fast heartbeat, dizziness, blurred vision, tingling hands or feet. Always keep glucose tablets or gel, table sugar, candy, fruit juice or regular soda to elevate your blood sugar.
Low blood sugar often occurs after drinking large amounts of alcohol, not eating enough food, or performing a heavy exercise. You can help to manage hypoglycemia by eating your meals on your regular schedule and avoiding skipping meals.
High blood sugar or hyperglycemia may include symptoms like thirst, confusion, increased urination, flushing, drowsiness, fruity breath odour, or rapid breathing. Disclose these symptoms to your doctor immediately when they occur. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medications. Also disclose to your doctor any other serious side effects, including signs of kidney problems, unusual skin blisters, joint pain, and signs of heart failure.
Januvia may cause side effects like:
Rash
Severe dizziness
Itching
Swelling of the face, tongue, throat, or difficulty breathing
Before you start taking this medication, let your doctor know if you are:
allergic to Januvia or other allergies;
having a medical history, especially of heart failure, kidney disease, stones in the gallbladder, or disease of the pancreas;
pregnant, trying to be pregnant, or breastfeeding;
taking prescription, non-prescription, herbal medicine to treat diabetes or another sickness; or
having severe bodily stress like fever, injury, or infection.
Extremely low or high blood sugar may make you experience dizziness, blurred vision, or drowsiness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or perform any activity requiring alertness and clear vision until you are absolutely sure that the tasks can be performed safely.
Limit your alcohol consumption while taking this medication because it can increase your risk of developing low blood sugar.
