Enalapril relaxes blood vessels to allow blood to flow more easily. Enalapril also makes it easier for your heart to pump blood to all parts of your body.
Hypertension (also known as high blood pressure) and heart problems can be caused by a variety of factors such as family history, a diet high in salt, or being overweight, or being inactive.
To prevent serious conditions such as stroke, heart attack, or blood clots, it is recommended that you take Enalapril and make lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, drinking less, and exercising more.
You can swallow the tablets whole by drinking water with or without food. To help you remember, it is best to take the tablets at the same time every day.
The usual starting dose for high blood pressure is 5mg, taken once daily. Your doctor may increase the dosage to 10mg, 20mg, or both, depending on your condition. This dose may differ if Enalapril is being used for heart disease or other conditions.
You can skip your Enalapril dose if you forget to take it. Instead, you can move on to the next one. You don't have to worry, but you shouldn't increase your dose to make up for the missed one.
You should not take Enalapril more than you need. An overdose can cause low blood pressure. Symptoms include dizziness or fainting.
