Amlodipine is used to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. It allows blood to flow more freely. This medication is used to treat angina by increasing blood flow to the heart, allowing it more oxygen and relieving pain.
Hypertension or angina can be caused by many factors such as family history, a diet high in salt, or being overweight.
To prevent serious conditions such as stroke, heart attack, or blood clots, it is recommended to make lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, drinking less, and exercising more.
You can swallow the tablets whole with water before or after eating. Amlodipine should be taken at the same time every day. You shouldn't take Amlodipine along with grapefruit juice.
One 5mg tablet per day is the recommended dose. However, your doctor may increase the dosage to 10mg if necessary. Consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems to determine the right dose.
You can skip your Amlodipine tablet if you forget to take it. Instead, you can move on to the next one. Do not increase your dose to make up for the missed one.
You should not take more Amlodipine than you need. Overdoses can cause extreme dizziness, breathing problems, or weakness. It is best to lie down with your legs and arms up.
