Alvesco is a treatment for asthma that prevents breathlessness and reduces the frequency of sudden attacks.
When taken daily, the active ingredient (a corticosteroid) becomes effective. It works to reduce symptoms of asthma by soothing inflammation of the lungs.
Before you start taking this medication, your doctor or nurse will show you how to use it properly. The Alvesco inhaler is made of a canister and a plastic container with a mouthpiece. The inhaler is already designed to release the right amount of medication, so you don't need to shake it before using it.
Hold the inhaler at the bottom with the mouthpiece removed. Take a deep breath, and then place the inhaler between your teeth.
To release the medicine, you need to take deep and slow inhalations. After holding your breath for a few seconds, take the inhaler out of your mouth and slowly exhale. Wait a few seconds if you are instructed to take another puff.
After use, ensure that you replace the mouthpiece cover and clean your inhaler at most once per week with dry tissue. Brush your teeth or rinse out your mouth after using the medication to avoid the strange taste that may also result in thrush or hoarseness.
One puff per day is the recommended dose. However, your doctor may adjust your dose if your condition is not improving, or you can manage it on a lower dose. Follow the instructions of your doctor. Do not change your dose unless you are told otherwise.
You should not forget to take your Alvesco if you are out of town. However, skip the missed dose and go straight to the next one. Do not double your dose to make up the one you missed.
You should not take more Alvesco than recommended. Overdose can cause your heart to beat faster, make you dizzy, weaker, or give you headaches.
you are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine or to any other medicine;

Alvesco is a continuous medication and can not be relied upon in case of an attack of breathlessness. Carry a fast-acting “rescue” inhaler for such circumstances. Consult your doctor to discuss the effect of Alvesco on you if there is no improvememnt after using the inhaler 2-3 times a week.
Like any other medicine, Alvesco may cause the following side effects:
hoarseness
burning,
inflammation,
irritation of mouth or throat
oral thrush
headache
bad taste
dryness of mouth or throat
nausea or vomiting
If any of these or other side effects persist or worsen, then consult your doctor immediately.
