An incorrectly performed blood glucose test may lead to incorrect test results that can cause the wrong therapy recommendation to be made and thus produce serious adverse health effects. Therefore, read the patient information leaflet carefully. Ensure to follow the instructions on how to perform a blood glucose test correctly.
Always clean your hands before performing the test and ensure that you do not have any visible or invisible signs of glucose residue from food or drink or any other way. It is important to perform the task on clean and dry hands. Soiled or sticky fingers may lead to falsely raised blood glucose and delivery of an incorrect high insulin amount.
Ensure to use a fresh and well-formed blood drop and take the test as soon as possible after lancing. Performing a blood glucose test with a blood drop that has spread or if you smear the blood drop on the test area increases the risk of contamination of the test that may lead to the wrong output of the test.
Place your finger gently and ensure that only the blood drop comes into contact with the centre of the test area. Do not touch your finger with the test area. Try to keep your finger still as much as possible and avoid any trembling or shaky movements. Delaying the performance of the test or keeping the finger for too long may lead to falsely elevated blood glucose results. Be attentive to the beep tone. It helps you to obtain a reliable test result.
There are no side effects of performing a blood glucose test with Accu-Chek Performa Test Strip.
